Practical Magic Blog Party

Ok, so I have a confession to make.  I only watched Practical Magic for the first time a few weeks ago.  I know, I know, terrible isn’t it?  I’d heard a lot of bloggers mention it and it seemed really popular and the kind of film that I would watch, so when it was on TV over here in the UK I recorded it and settled down one afternoon with a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit.  Well I was hooked right from the start, the aunties in all their finery talking about chocolate cake for breakfast sound like just my type of ladies.

I toyed with several ideas for this blog party.  Should I have a chocolate themed tea party or create lotions and potions from various herbs or even attempt to paint a Practical Magic inspired picture, but what I actually wanted to do was talk about love.

One thing that struck me was the theme of sisterly love running through.  Not just with the obvious connection between the two sisters but the bond with a mother, an auntie, a daughter or a friend.  Then there was the greater bond between womanhood as a whole.  Despite the fact that the women of the town barely tolerated the Owens’ family they did not hesitate when the emergency call on the phone tree list was sent out.  So despite any feelings of animosity, they pushed away the fear, picked up the brooms and discovered their own little spark of magic.

You see deep down we might all think that we’re too different and that nobody understands us but days like these, with a group of women from all around the world coming together over a mutual love of a film, shows that the bond between females isn’t just a Hollywood story, it’s real and deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated.

So next time that your in the supermarket and a woman looks at you in a horrible way, or your walking down the street and you see a lady looking sad.  Remember that bond and give them a smile, it might just help them more than you or they realise.

There is a little witch in every woman ;-)

Now, where did I put that cake.

Thanks for joining me, and thanks to Anna over at Frosted Petunias for hosting such a wonderful Practical Magic Party  Please do go along and see what lovely things everybody else is doing

There is something extra magical happening between the Owens women, isn't there?

I'm glad you watched the movie. I love your hat, and I almost licked my screen trying to taste the cake ;-)

I agree with you that people really can come together in times of need, and women especially.
I like to smile at people who are frowning, but sometimes that makes them come over and talk to me. Isn't it a shame that I tend to shop when I am in a rush?

Thank you for the chocolate. I am only allowed it at parties these days.

Towards the beginning of this post you said you toyed with ideas of what to submit for the party and mentioned making lotions and potions, painting a picture inspired by the movie or putting together a chocolate theme tea party. You can do all of these things?? I really like the way you chose to celebrate the movie. If you're anything like most of us you'll find the urge to watch the movie again at some future point in time. I think they found a way to make it addictive. It must be magic.

I am also new to the movie and have been astounded at how it brings women together. Love it! Hope you can stop by my enchanted oven for some PM cookies.

Absolutely spot on!!! Every time I see the movie I always tear up at the part where the ladies in the coven forcefully join hands to rid Jillian of the Bulgarian cowboy and break Maria's curse. Helping each other especially when the chips are down is what life is about!
Thank you for your insightful words and also for visiting my post.
Huge blessings to you,
Tricia

A beautiful day to you, Rachel,
How true. A little kindness goes such a long way. Even if someone is grumpy, like the checkout clerk at the grocer, just smiling and being kind can bring that person into such a better mood.

Thank you for your lovely PM party post... and the chocolate cake looks divine.

Bright autumn blessings,
Bird

It's reassuring isn't it, to know that when push comes to shove, people tend to resort to kindness and love in situations like these. Quite lovely really.

Love is the greatest "magic" of all. It is a kind that is available to everyone no matter who they are. And, when added to any recipe makes it ever so much better :o)
Thank you for the PM party blog.
Have a great day and a magical autumn,
